Yeah, that's what I would hope for.  Break the bad code in favor of
writing new, working code.

I always say that no one is forcing anyone to upgrade until they are
ready.  I would gladly setup a new development server with the "fixed"
version and rebuild my pages.

  That probably isn't feasible from a " What will our stock holders
think" 
perspective.
  Additionally, changing inconsistencies after they've been released is
probably going to break a lot of code designed to work around those
inconsistencies.  ( Scarey, huh? )
