I worked with the 2.2 version of that. It has some analysis features built in, but it still has horrible naming conventions.
The publishing mechanism still generates a cfm file that contains the form. I'm not sure why that is a problem. How did you do it instead?
I spent roughly 2 days integrating the survey tool into the project I'm working on.

It was written by someone who thought naming .cfm files o12.cfm (for Object "12", like that means anything) was a good idea.
Also, for each survey, it generates a folder and a .cfm file that contains the form. I understand the need to have a publishing mechanism, but it doesn't make much sense to "publish" to cfml. We tore all that stuff out because everything was on the same box. We added some export features, question types, and some analysis features. It wasn't the best starting point, but it does the job pretty well now.
