In my experience, the performance benefits of stored procedures are
rather limited. Yes, they are faster because they are precompiled. But
this speed increase is usually quite small, and the big databases have
such fast and efficient optimizers and caching that it seems to become
less of an issue as time goes on. Reuse is a big benefit of stored
procs, as is security. But as I described, reuse isn't a driver here as
the queries are very specific. And security isn't an issue in this
particular case as the database is read only and doesn't contain any
sensitive data, just a whole lot of "public" data.

The app was written entirely in FuseQ and then converted (easily) to
Fusebox 4, which has worked excellently. But most of the model layer is
contained in CFCs that all use an OO approach with lots of composition
(and subclassing where appropriate). The application contains numerous
"manager" objects (singletons) that act similarly to listeners in
Mach-II. They are the bridge between the FB4 framework and numerous
packages of CFCs that are fully independent of the framework.

I've found that learning Java and reading up on OO theory and design
patterns have been extremely helpful in creating our CFCs (and getting
into the OO mindset as well).

I thought the primary benefit of moving to stored procedures was
performance? Although, I can definitely see a "re-use" benefit also.

  It does.
My next question would be are you using "Object Oriented" or
"procedural"
Design methods in your development?
