I don't really have an opinion on that. I wouldn't bother to do it personally but I don't think it's bad practice either.

A couple of changes I would like to see tho':
1. <cfset var x> i.e., with 'var' you don't need to actually initialize the variable
Isn't that the way it is now?
2. the ability to use <cfset var x = ...> anywhere instead of just at the top of the function so you could declare variables at their first use
This is a preference, I prefer it to be at the top. What do you consider the benefits of being able to declare at their first use?
