Hmmm ... to help mitigate that i've made sure to name my mapping uniquely within the app, so i don't replace anything (variables) i shouldn't be replacing. I do a few tentitive finds in key areas of the app just to make sure, and then go for it. It takes a little time and a certain presence of mind to accomplish, but it hasn't been too bad. The good news is that any errors that do result if you botch the search and replace are pretty obvious. And it's the first thing you've gotta do, so you can always wipe an attempt and start over if something goes really wrong without losing too much time.
