Kirk, No apologies required, I think these questions are appropriate for this list. Yes, the base cfcs in the mach-ii.info app are beans. I think you could refer to those components as models, sometimes they are called "business components".
The only thing I would add is just continue to do what you are doing by reading up as much as you can and try to implement things. Don't worry if what you do initially isn't 100% correct in terms of OO. Learning OO and Mach-II is definitely an iterative process.
