A .ctl file looks like: LOAD DATA INFILE calvertClean2.csv APPEND INTO TABLE LV_SYS.loc_temp FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"' TRAILING NULLCOLS ( dummy,dummy1, "POSTCODE", "LOCNAME" ) It just maps fields in your file to a db table and columns.
