If you feel like you don't have a solid grasp of OO basics then this is a fine book to start with

I think Fowlers PoEAA, Head First Design Pat., and Gang of Four are
all great books, but recommending them could be putting the cart
before the horse. I'd recommend "The Object Oriented Thought Process"
and some hands-on experience with doing (or trying to do) things in an
OO manner as a prereq to any of those books.
