My feeling is that however things work out, ColdFusion users and potential adopters are going to require some serious reassurance in the coming months. A period of uncertainty could do CF a lot of damage in the market place.

For potential, new and established developers, CF is an important career decision and there are competing systems out there without any obvious uncertainties hanging over them. Ditto businesses. How many CTOs will want in their reference "Did quite well although she did advise us to choose an application server that turned out to be an end-of-the-line product"?

I'm not suggesting that this would happen (I'd be amazed and *very* disappointed if it did), but it doesn't take much FUD, intentional or otherwise, to impact upon sales. Here's hoping that the inevitable period of uncertainty (while the regulators examine the proposal, etc) doesn't do any great harm to CF's position.
