We have written an installer in the past that asks where the cfc root for that application will be then it updates all of the CFCs as it writes them to the correct location and puts the correct root information into them. It is a pretty simple matter of parsing the CFCs for some placeholder text and replacing it with the correct path information. There really aren't any limitations with CF, that I have run into, that there aren't simple work arounds to - sometimes you just have to look at the problem from a different perspective. I can't say this solution will work for everyone - but it has worked for us quite well in the past. We have a similar script that will work in the reverse order - we tell it what cfc path to replace with the placeholder text in order to prepare all of the CFCs for the installer.
