In languages with interfaces and strong typing, an interface defines a lot more than just data types. Interfaces, in ColdFusion, could just define a list of methods. That, by itself, would be useful. So, I don't believe it's a contradiction at all. As far as I can tell, these features are complimentary, not interdependent.
