Massimo replied to me off-list and reminded me that in CF7, you can
use javaCast to pass a null value into a java method call.  So you can
already do that with CF (and you could actually do it before CF7 with
some rather convoluted Java trickery).

Apologies for the oversight, we're still running CF6.1 exclusively, so
I'm not quite up on my CF7 stuff, though that'll change.
