Not really sure why.  The tags are anomalies, in some ways, because
every other CF tag (on CFMX, at least) has a clearly defined set of
attribute that are allowed, and any other attributes cause
compile-time errors.  However, I can't imagine that NA completely
missed that detail when they were originally building BD 6.x.

On a related note, this is the reason FarCry won't run on it either. 
Though from what I understand, that's changing (FarCry, not BD), and
the dependance on custom metadata attributes is dwindling quickly.
