Seems to me like there's some kind of giant miscommunication or there are some assumptions being incorrectly applied...
To use an analogy, it's like you have some folks on the board advocating the use of robots for better manufacturing. Those people imagine a simple blow torch attached to a hinged arm hooked up to a couple servos, and think "robot". Other people hear "robot" and think of some giant man-robot monstrosity.
