The "this" scope opens your variables so they can be edited without
using a getter/setter method.  In other words, "this" lets you access
your variable data directly.  "Variables" scope protects your data, but
you'll need accessor methods (getter/setters) to do anything with the
data.

I started playing with ColdFusion Components a couple of years ago and
I never found a good reason to use the "This" scope.
