using variables.instance is, as brian said, really handy for geting
just the instance data..

you need a getMemento() method.. well you can probably just have it
return variables.instance  (caveat,not all objects are so simple that
you don't have to do more than this particulary composite objects; at
least not if you just want a structural representation of your
object's instance data at that point in time..)
