Interesting article. There are a lot of similarities between Ruby on
Rails and my application cfcPowerTools. Ruby on Rails will
"automatically map tables to classes, rows to objects (instances of the
model classes), and columns to object attributes".

cfcPowerTools does the same thing. Ruby has the ability to work with
relational data. So does cfcPowerTools, but cfcPowerTools does not do
it automatically yet.

By the way, I've finished up cfcPowerTools version 3 and it's ready for
testing. cfcPowerTools 3 has the following improvements:

- CFCTypes. cfcPowerTools comes with 3 CFC Types - DAO (creates MachII
CFC and DAO), Model/Controller, and Simple. You can create your own CFC
Types. A CFC Type describes a CFC and its database access CFC and form
if applicable.

- Schema. cfcPowerTools now generates all CFCs from a XML document
which is validated against a schema. You can use cfcPowerTools' schema
or create your own.

- Managed Code. cfcPowerTools now has managed code. You can tag any
section or sections of your CFC as managed code and assign a CFC and
Method to that section. The CFC and Method assigned to the section are
responsible for the code generated for that section. All code outside
of managed code section is left alone by cfcPowerTools

- Open Source. cfcPowerTools version 3 will be open to an extent. The
only code not open is how cfcPowerTools manages Managed Code and
generating CFCs from the CFC Types loaded in cfcPowerTools's library.

I do not have version 3 available from my site (www.cfcpowertools.com)
yet. I hope to have version 3 available in a couple of weeks. Just
depends on how testing goes.

Thanks

Tom Schreck
