It's no wonder ColdFusion takes so long to learn. There's the URL scope, the FORM scope, the Variables scope, the Application scope, the Request scope, the This scope, Client variables, Session variables, Cookies, arrays, structures, queries, lists, and who knows whatever else I forgot to mention.
Then inside of components, there is the variables scope vs. the var scope. If you define a variable inside a component, but outside of the functions, it's available to all functions (I think). Addressing each one of these scopes is way to much to talk about in one email response. I think what I'd like to do is put together a page talking about each scope with all it's idiosyncrasies, it's benefits and costs. I know, I know... "It's called livestats, Phil!" Well, I'm particularly struggling with the scoping inside of cfcs. There was some discussion last week about using var instead of variables. And there was some discussion of not exposing variables outside the cfc. So I need to put together some 'typical' examples. Are there any built already? ---------------------------------------------------------- You are subscribed to cfcdev.
