Right, Sean, and I should have changed it in my last post too.   Sorry everyone.

But since this subject line is about factory patterns,  does anyone know a not-too-technical place where I can go to learn about it, preferably on line?

A short while back, I posted some code that I asked for opinions about, and BIll Rawlinson was kind enough to give me a very detailed rundown on what he thought.  Almost line by line.  Amazing how much detail he went into and I'm very grateful to him.  As I work through the suggestions he made and work out what I'm going to do about each one, I come to the following:

Well, overall it looks pretty good.  I'd probably instantiate your DAO into application scope so you don't have to create it all the time and add a factory component that handled that for you as well as provided the DAO to you when you needed it.

That seems like a very worthwhile suggestion to me, and now I need to learn more about it.  I have a pretty fair idea of what it all means, but in order to produce working code, I need to know more than "a fair idea".

Can anyone point me to a (preferably free!) resource where I can learn the detail about this?
