Chris,

That would be great if I was developing an in-house product, such as a flash client. But (I should have mentioned this in my original post) I am  developing an API for external clients so that they can use the content and functionality of an existing web application. I don't really want to expose the internals of my model to do this, even if it is just the service layer. Also, I will need exception handling, logging and security.
