A problem that I have run into many times at my place of work is that our
standard configuration for our IIS websites is windows integrated
authentication. CF can not pass windows integrated authentication to produce a
web service. The "WSDL" file is actually an IIS error page, which is not
formatted as WSDL. I have to remember to go into IIS and make user the web
service CFC file has anonymous access allowed.

webservice.

Nope. Good guess though.
The component actually does work when called as a local component
instead of a web service.
Even so, I did verify that the closing component tag is present.
