If you're working on your own and just starting with CFCs, I think you
can just use returntype and type ="any" - i've thought about it from a
variety of angles, and unless you are trained in a typed language and
using type makes a lot of sense to you, i don't think you'll get much
benefit out of trying to use type in CF. My personal opinion here. Using
type in certain development environments or in very complex apps can
certainly be advantageous, but i wouldn't rubber stamp using type as a
best practice automatically.

I've got a blog entry that explores this topic in depth if you're
interested why i've come to this conclusion.

I am new to cfcs. In the past I've used more strongly typed languages. So
typing does make sense to me. On the one hand I like the security of type
checking, but I think requiring full paths makes the code less portable. I just
wanted to get a feel for what others are doing, and more importantly their
reasoning, before making my own decision.

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.
