Essentially (as I understand it) the CFC and all of its parent CFCs are merged into one big component, so the issue is really related to causing more classes to be compiled, causing more metadata to be created, the merge processing, etc. But I'm not aware of any specific articles or tests regarding the performance of long inheritance chains.
