Sorry for the delays in getting feedback on this PR; it was opened on Christmas so it came in at an awkward time and it took a while for it to get attention. However, I believe this feedback was something which had been discussed in a community meeting prior to you opening the PR. You mentioned you thought there was another way to do it which had less interface changes and I believe that's this PR was intending to show. So while I'm sorry that it's frustrating to hear opposition to that design, I thought it was also a known experiment up front. Sorry if that was unclear!
