The community do try to be accommodating but there is certainly no blanket policy to accept arbitrary downstream extensions without discussion. That it has been deployed downstream for some years isn't really relevant. So an RFC that describes the behavior of this PR would be useful. Same thing if you want to upstream further extensions. This PR would further need to come with a sensible description, documentation (and a release note) before we can meaningfully review it.
