let's say we are `-ftrivial-auto-var-init=zero` and max size of 16. any
instances of `ThereBePaddingHere` obviously won't be zero-init'd. looking into
the struct `c` will be zero-init'd but what about the 3 bytes between `c` and
`i`? are we doing anything with those?
