Hi Ben

I use an CFXimage to resize images and output them and it has worked out
great. If you check out
http://www.library.guelph.on.ca/localhistory/photodbase/copyright.cfm I'm
using cfximage to take a tiff image and create jpg thumbnails on the fly in
real time. It first checks to see if the thumbnail exists and if it doesn't
then it creates it. Once the thumbnail is created and a person clicks on it,
it will then check to see if a larger jpg is available and if not then it
will take the original tiff and resize it to a jpg.

CFXimage can do quite a bit more than just resizing so it is worth looking
into.

Hope this helps

Cheers
Gord
