Yes, CF5 is capable of participating in an SMTP setup. I'm betting that the
client is more worried than hopeful, given the recent security scare over
SNMP (http://www.cert.org/advisories/CA-2002-03.html and
http://www.secadministrator.com/articles/index.cfm?articleid=24140). Tell
him/her that unless CF is specifically setup to use the SNMP capability (to
allow CF to be managed/monitored from a centralized enterprise management
system), there shouldn't be any negative impact of those scares in a CF
environment.

If, on the other hand s/he was just interested in making CF available to be
monitored/managed via SNMP, see Chapter 1 of the manual "Installing and
Configuring ColdFusion", at
http://www.macromedia.com/software/coldfusion/resources/evaluation/pdf/cf5_i
nstall_config.pdf or http://livedocs.macromedia.com/cf50docs/dochome.jsp

Subject: [CFTALKTor] CF & Mibs / SNMP

Hi
My client is asking if Cold Fusion has any MIBS(I think that is what he
called it) or SNMP.
If it does:
1) how does one enable it?
2) anything to install?
