Thanks James,

When you say processing submitted text to remove Word formatting, what
exactly is involved? I often use the Clean up Word HTML function in
Dreamweaver but not quite sure how to do it in CF.

Regards,
Razeen.

I have run into this problem in a slightly different scenario. What I have
done is process the submitted text, removing any unwanted formatting that
get inherited from Word. This also means watching out for those nasty
special Word characters, like bullets, em-dashes, and quotation marks; all
of which will show up incorrectly in some browsers.

If your users have a tendancy to use really bizarre characters, that are way
up in the extended character set, you can also inform them that in order to
reduce problems, they should do all their editing in Word using a font with
a limited character set, such as Courier, which has a limited number of
characters. It may look worse to them, but it will save some headaches for
you.

Another option is to have them do a two-step process, by having them cut and
paste into another program, like Notepad or Wordpad. This will have other
side effects though. When pasting into Notepad, the user will lose any
BOLD, ITALIC, UNDERLINE, etc... I wanted to allow this type of formatting to
be persistent, so Notepad did not work for me.

Hope some of these ideas help.

Subject: [CFTALKTor] Controlling font for memo field

Hi,

I use Activedit instead of a textarea field for users to enter articles
which are then later displayed. The default font for this form field is set
to Verdana. My problem is users who cut and paste from Word or elsewhere and
so include formatting with other font faces and sizes.

Any ideas of how to get around this?
