Hi Jeremy, I've had this problem too, but I'm not certain what fixed it. It
was on my todo list and when I got around to it, it was no longer a
problem.
I suspected it was a setting in the datasources, but never went back to
experiment and confirm this. My motivation was just not there, but perhaps
yours is. :-)

In ODBC setup there is a "Perform translation for character data" checkbox.

The help on the screen says this (note the "extended characters in ANSI
character strings may be misinterpreted" part ):
Perform translation for character data check box

When selected, the SQL Server ODBC driver converts ANSI strings sent
between the client computer and SQL Server by using Unicode. The SQL Server
ODBC driver sometimes converts between the SQL Server code page and Unicode
on the client computer. This requires that the code page used by SQL Server
be one of the code pages available on the client computer.
When cleared, no translation of extended characters in ANSI character
strings is done when they are sent between the client application and the
server. If the client computer is using an ANSI code page (ACP) different
from the SQL Server code page, extended characters in ANSI character
strings may be misinterpreted. If the client computer is using the same
code page for its ACP that SQL Server is using, the extended characters are
interpreted correctly.

I'm in the process of redoing a website that was previously made in ASP
into Cold fusion. Things are progressing really smoothly. EXCEPT FOR THIS:
Anything content that is pulled from the database displays quotations or
apostrophes as a box. WHY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WHY???? This drives me nuts.
Quotes display fine in the ASP version and I haven't changed any of the
content in the data base itself. Any ideas. Why does CF do this?
