knobs and dials allow customization... right? so how could it have support for customization but not enough custom hooks? I presume the article elucidates this.

CGI::MxScreen was interesting to me as an alternative to CGI::App, but it is not well-maintained and contains too much magic for me. I tried to grok Tom C's original version of MxScreen, but just broke out CGI::App and said "hey this works great!" and that was the end of that.
