I spotted my mistake alright. Now I can join the idiot list for the day.

will never work will it!

And I repeatedly get this error message:
[error] No such run mode 'm_0000' at /home/johnday/modperl/lic001.cgi line 10
Any suggestion? I suspect I should upgrade the Perl to 5.8.5 - but why? 
Surely this should work?
