For me it was! I checked out the site and was ready to commit dev staff to the
project. I was already thinking about how to prepare in advance for the
contest (set up build env for distributing a VMWare app, assume SOAP interface,
AJAX, etc.).

Then I read that I had to go to Nürnberg, Germany. Ack!

Surely there is a way to do an event like this which embraces the real world
network-connected environment! Forget about the "30 hours". (Who develops
like this, anyway? Is this a study in sleep deprivation?) Give the teams a
week. Make them keep a time log. Let them consult with others. Submit your
work after.

This is not the first such event. Starting in 1977 Tom DeMarco and Timothy
Lister (authors of "Peopleware: Productive Projects and Teams") conducted
"coding war games" including hundreds of organizations world-wide. I would
definitely be interested in something like that.

At any rate, best of luck to the team that did participate! If they need any
pre-contest help, I'm happy to throw in my €0.02.

TTYL,

-Jesse-
