Hi! Today I tried to make the cgit binary run as system user "git", although it is regularly spawned by the webserver. I wrote a small wrapper to accomplish this. If you're interested, I wrote down how I did it: http://blog.plenz.com/2011-09/cgit-and-setuid.html
