Yes, that's advertising, and it's not connected with the app usage. You can install Smartmail app http://apps.facebook.com/smartmail/ and check social news or read and write smartmail messages apart from our other apps (messages related to Sparkey, Compare People, Social Profile and all other Chainn applications will be shown there, but you don't need to start them first, in order to read smartmail, you can just start the Smartmail app).
