One thing you should do before the make install is to remove the chandler/release and/or chandler/debug directories. This is needed as under the previous binary tarballs some libraries were included that are no longer needed and if you run chandler with them present you will get errors about c++ ABI and other lovely messages.

So if you are running on Linux and do a make install you will be using the new bits and if you are running on an older Linux platform, like FC2, you may have issues running Chandler.
