Sorry to be so silent about your proposal, my silence equals consent in this case, but that can be a little unsatisfying when you've so clearly put a ton of work into this, so here's my reaction: At a high level, this seems like exactly the right direction to head to me. You've thought about all the edge cases that come immediately to mind. I don't feel like I've wrapped my brain around all the edge cases for sharing and upgrading schemas, but this seems like an excellent place to start. One question: how much do you think we're locking ourselves into these APIs? Obviously we can add methods and optional arguments, but if we're going to treat this as sacrosanct we should all probably look into this extra carefully.
