Hi Viksit,

For those of you who don't know what this project is all about, I will try to give a brief description of it here. As we plan to have stamping in Chandler, which essentially means categorization/classification of items like emails, tasks ..., an idea was born that when the user does not manually assign an item to a specific category/class then the computer could try to do it automatically based on the user's prior classifications of similar items. The founding idea of course is that in todays information overload any means of preprocessing for automatic organization of presented information has the potential to save a lot of the user's time -- much like todays probabilistic spam filters are able to do a decent job on blocking all those unwanted emails. In order to account the failing margin, the user will naturally be allowed to change his/her mind and in a case of misclassification to make adjustments as necessary.

I really need to get this MVA restarted. Actually, it's possible that Markku will start working on it next week so that'll give this another good push. All that to say that it's not that we kept you in the dark, the truth is that nothing happened on that front recently.

Yup, as discussed before I am taking over this one once Philippe has enough time to brief me into all the work that has been done so far (maybe even on Monday). I was following this project from the start but at some point lost track and hence will need to do some catching up. On the other hand I feel that I have a fair understanding of the underlying methodology and hence will not need too much time to learn the basics in that (I have my post graduate training from statistical decision making and computational intelligence).

Cheers,
   Markku Mielityinen

Thanks for asking anyway. We'll keep you inform.

Cheers,
- Philippe

Hi Phillipe,

I've been kind of busy recently - and most of the time I get is after
work, during which you're not around :) I was wondering if you might be
able to give me email pointers on installing and getting to work on the
alpha1 release to look at the MVA code and how it works..

Cheers,
Viksit
