Howdy, Though I am not quite ready to start work on this, I had been thinking about a good way to increase the use and usefulness of the Chandler software, namely to extend its ability to be used from Mobile Phones, in particular the Microsoft Windows Mobile Platform. I have written a couple of programs already for the Windows Mobile device and am pretty familiar with how it works.
I have a couple of general questions about Chandler. First: Does chandler provide a full SOAP mechanism? I have found the Windows Mobile is pretty good with SOAP messaging. Second: If it does, is there an API Document available for how this mechanism works? Third: Is this thought process (that is, creating a mobile client) interesting to anyone aside from myself? I am not a person who wants to pay through the nose for an Exchange server. Even so, I am essentially forced into it because my Mobile Platform of Choice uses it to keep track of my calendar, contacts, and email. I would assume I am not the only person on the planet with this dilemma. Furthermore, since this is J2EE, I would imagine I could easily put this on my hosted web server and run it myself, rather than having to depend on some other hosting company running Exchange for me. I will probably be installing and testing out a chandler instance at the end of the week on my Solaris box at home. I again have a few other things I am working on (outside of my normal job functions) so it may be a bit till I can get something interesting out there, but I am excited to think that maybe I can contribute something useful to this already exciting project. Anyone who can shed light on this I would appreciate it, Thanks, Aleksei
