Hi Grant,
We could also register an attachment type, so that opening the
attachment would launch Chandler. It might even be possible to "embed"
the attachment in a reasonable way in, say, html mail. Unfortunately,
opening random attachments in email has gotten a bad name nowadays ...
Yeah. I think this might be the way to go. We'd need to expose the
attachment, which means all Chandler emails (not just events) would
always have an attachment, which bugs some people. But on the whole, I
think this works the best.
Not sure I'm following...Why would this be unreliable? Meaning, people
might file replies out of their Inbox?
I think Jeffrey is saying it would greatly increase the amount of
traffic Chandler would generate to talk to IMAP servers, which would
make fetching mail susceptible to network failures, etc. And, because of
inconsistent server implementations, it might not work at all.
Heh, I actually was thinking that if you file messages out of your
Inbox, there's a good chance grabbing a thread will fall on its face.
That doesn't mean we shouldn't do it, just that we shouldn't overbill
the feature (when/if we get to it).
There's also the performance issue, though.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey
