I thought that we were going to ask if we could use their email address to contact them with user questions when they sign up for a hub account? I didn't think it was on download of the desktop but perhaps I am forgetting the details of what we talked about. When they sign up for a hub account we already have the email address and it would simply be a matter of them opting out of giving us permission to contact them.

We've discussed for a while asking users who would like to participate in user surveys for their email address when they download Chandler Desktop.

In thinking about this more, I feel that "when users download" is perhaps a bad time to do that. It feels like one more spam-like barrier to getting the app and checking it out. Also, the downloader hasn't had a chance to look at the app and decide to give it a try.

Is there a way we could ping the user for their email address *after* the fact? e.g. Can we ping them when they've been using it for a week or so? Is this something we can do using our Auto-Check- For-Updates feature? Say, after 5 pings, pop-up a dialog asking the user for the email address along with a couple of questions so that you immediately understand *why* we need your email?

Mimi, could we get a spec? Jeffrey or Travis can implement.
