Hi Avner, I've forwarded this thread to the Chandler-Dev list so we can work through design details...

I think your original request for use cases on the users-list was the right thing to do. You might get some more responses if you ask about search scenarios in general (as opposed to scenarios specific to the Web UI), since people are currently searching in the desktop.

Maybe send out something along the lines of: How do you use search in Chandler today?

See more in-line...

Sorry, I accidentally hit send a little early on that last one.

Oh oops, also Avner, search on the Desktop is invoked with /f or / find. /s
is for created starred notes :)

Uh-oh. I believe that's a bug. I've logged it here: https:// bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12203

On 0.7.6 for linux both /f and /s invoke a search, /t is used to
create starred notes. I haven't updated to 0.7.7 yet, so maybe that
explains the difference.

Is there somewhere I can try out the work you've done on Search?

I have been hosting my code on github. The relevant branch is called
"expandICA" and can be found here:

Unfortunately I jumped the gun a little bit on this email, it only
works from the command line right now. I'm hoping to get the JS stuff
done this week.

Hm, I think I may need some hand-holding to figure out how to access that. I will wait for you to finish the JS stuff before bugging you about that. :)

Q. Can I search for a particular phrase by putting it in quotations?

Not yet, but very soon.

Awesome.

As for use cases, searching on Title versus Notes would be a nice addition.

I was a little imprecise in my earlier email. Right now you can only
search on either the Title or the Note, but not both.

Event dates might also be nice. If we can do ranges, it might be useful to be able to pull up everything within a time range. Dates: Jan 23-30, 2008

I think the code for this is already built into Cosmo, I just need to
tie it into the UI. I wasn't sure if this email was appropriate for
the users list, if it is would you let me know so I can forward it to
the list? Thanks so much for getting back to me.

Great, let me know if you have any UI questions for parsing date formats, etc.
