Hi, I used Chandler for a few weeks, but found it to be too slow-loading.
Anyway, I took some notes for you guys if you are able to do something useful
with them to improve Chandler – great! If not, no insult taken. Hope what I
wrote makes some sense at least. Here were my ideas:
Suggestions:
- Way too slow under Windows XP SP3, 32-bit version.
- Load program faster
- Tray icon
- Drag-&-Drop task with mouse from one Category to another; not just
copy/cut function via keyboard shortcuts. Also, add shortcuts like in Windows:
Shift + Drag-&-Drop task actually copies the task to the other Category ( =
“Copy” function ), while a simple Drag-&-Drop with mouse (without holding the
Shift keyboard key) just moves the task to the other Category ( = “Cut”
function
).
- Arrange tasks by DATE – make Year fist, Month second, Date third in
the arrangements. Arrange by latest date at beginning of list, or at end of
list, if we click on the arrange column button a second time, life it is in
Windows Explorer. Put ARROW next to column that is the current active
organization option. ARROW pointing UP in the Date column means that all items
&
tasks are currently organized by ascending date. From A-to-Z or from Z-to-A.
o On top should be “Today”, then Tomorrow, then next Calendar date,
arranged by Year/Month/Date, and at the end of the list should be Yesterday,
then the dates going backwards, from the most recent date of the past, to the
most distant date in the past.
- Option to View ONLY the “NOW” category, or just the NOW & LATER
category.
- Option to delete past repetitive events in the DONE category,
without
having to delete the entire repetitive event, since it might be still active.
- Put levels of organizing the display of items by column. ARRANGE
first by Date, then by Name, or then by Task/Item status.
- Ability to Change the Order of the way Tasks & Items appear in the
list of each of the 3 categories. Option to number each Task & Item, from 1 to
9999…. And please allow for items that are numbered just “1” to be put on top
of
the list, so that items numbered “10” do not take their place on the top of the
list. This mistake happens in Windows Explorer, and the solution there is to
rename files with a “01” at the beginning of the filename, and not just “1”,
because the 0 comes before the 1, and so Windows Explorer puts the 01 before
the
10. Otherwise, a file whose name starts with a 1 is put AFTER the file whose
name starts with 10.
- Brian Tracy prioritizing organization add-on: Urgent, Important, A1,
2, 3… to D1, 2, 3… with different colors, automatically arranging itself.
- Add-on with my auto-importance calculator of each task, item or
project. User give approx time it will take, if it’s urgent, important, when it
is due, how much time the entire project will take, or just add (drag-&-drop)
items & tasks into project, and entire duration will be calculated by the sum
of
the parts.
-
- Visible Hours: “From HH:MM to HH:MM” option. Ex: From 9am to 10pm,
every day/ on weekdays only / every Wednesday… Option to set up Visible Hours
for each day of the week, for weekdays and weekends separately, for custom days
(every 3 days/weeks, etc.) or Calendar Dates, or depending on a specific events
in calendar (ex: Holidays, Birthdays…) as well.
- Ability to give Titles to each day in Calendar. Ex: Work day.
Fishing
trip day. Our Anniversary day.
- Alarms: Custom SOUNDS/Videos/Open or Start Custom Program on Alarm,
Entire screen flashing 1, 2 or more custom Colors (ex: Make entire computer
screen display GREEN color for 1 second, then RED color for 0.2 seconds, then
Yellow color for 3 seconds), with or without sound. Or just make entire screen
YELLOW, until any keyboard key is pressed to return back to normal desktop.
Snooze option should be available too, with option of setting custom minutes
for
snooze (3; 7; 8 minute and 30 sec.). Option in Preferences menu for setting a
DEFAULT value for snooze time, so we don’t have to do it manually every time
after each alarm.
- Replace all text of this type ___ with ___ (Match case option [like
in Notepad or MS Word], which includes the sub-options: uppers CAPS/ lower
caps/
MiXeD LeTTeRs)
- When setting Calendar events, or alarms, place visual calendar, so
we
see the entire month, with days of the week, like we see it in the bottom left
of Chandler.
- Option to change the keyboard or mouse Shortcut buttons or
combinations of buttons.
