Mischa, Yes. Add another one to the incredibly frustrated list when it comes to Chandler's non-existent print capability. I'm not fussed about printing calendar stuff. Quite honestly, I don't give two hoots for that. I need calendar info when I'm in front of the computer, so I can just check it then. However, I really need Chandler's help when I'm not in front of the computer. And to do that, I need to print out a list of items in a collection to take with me, or print out the details of one particular item. The complete inability to do this completely stumps me. I would have assumed that this sort of thing would have been an absolute must for version 1.0. But apparently, it wasn't. Forgive my assumption here, but I suspect that this comes from a very "North American" bias to the project and its development. By that I mean that people who live in an 'always connected', 'I've got a desktop, laptop, smart phone, iPod, iPhone and other gadgets' type of world forget that people elsewhere are more grounded in reality. In fact, most people in the world have nowhere near this amount of access to the web etc. I don't want to knock the hard work and focus of people who live in these worlds and work on the Chandler project - but my world (and I suspect many many other users') is entirely different. I live in a rainforest, over four hours' drive off-road from a town. Or, going in the other direction, at least 45 mins by flight to the next nearest town. Even then, neither town has anything so simple as a cinema. Or a shop where you could pay by card... We consider ourselves lucky, and I mean REALLY lucky that we have not only a working cell-phone network, but also internet access. And yet, like billions of other people in the world, I want to be productive. I don't have a handy-sized gadget to take with me that will connect to the internet wherever I go. Even if network coverage wasn't so patchy, I wouldn't want to invest in an expensive smart phone or whatever just so that I could see my shopping list for our one and only shop at our village. I want to print it out and take it with me in my pocket. Why is that not even possible in Chandler? To me, at least, it is a major failing. I am VERY MUCH AWARE, that mine is an extreme example in the other direction from North America. However, for millions of other people in the world (and dare I say it, the vast majority of the "market" for Chandler's software), always on connectivity is just not a reality - either because the connectivity doesn't exist where they live, or because for economic reasons, they are not able to afford the gadgets to even connect when they're not in front of a PC. For us, in the rest of the world, we need to be able to print effectively from Chandler. A note to developers - Please please please please find some time to resolve this. I cannot code. If I could, I would try to do something about it. However, I can offer a donation to a fund for software development. Or some time to write documentation. I would hope that this would be in exchange for printing capability. How about anyone else - are you also frustrated by Chandler's inability to do simple prints of collections and items? Thanks, Mark. Mischa Beitz wrote: I have to chime in on this. -- Mark Hayes. _________________________________ e-mail: [email protected] |
