I've also been intrigued by Chandler ever since I read the book. It's an amazing story of how bad a development cycle can be. I mean, come on, what, 20 people, six years, and this is all we've got? OK, if you really want to use Chandler, forget about files, and start to think about collections of items. Items can be notes or events with a time. There are four collections that will always be around - "Dashboard" which contains everything, "In" and "Out" for messages, and "Trash" where things go to die. You can create as many more collections as you want, and they'll be listed just below the main four, over on the left. Click the "Collection" menu, then "New" to create a collection. To add a new item, click on the collection you want to put it in, then give it a title in the top text entry box. When you press enter, the item is created with its name in the middle column, and you can fill in the contents in the right column text entry box. If you want any particular item to be listed in more than one collection, just drag and drop the item name into the other collection. When you click on any item, it's location is listed at the bottom of the right column. You can give some items special significance by clicking on the little black star on the top of the left column. Then if you want to see just those significant items, click on the yellow star in the tool bar. To go back to seeing everything, click "All". If you want to see everything in calendar form, just click "Calendar". (Unless you sign up for a Chandler Hub account, ignore the "Sync" button, but you should check out the hub if you need to have central storage for your information.) You can show or hide collections on the calendar by clicking the colored icon next to the collection name in the left column. If you want to turn an item into an event, select the item, the click on the clock icon at the top of the right column. If you want to turn an event into a note, clicking the clock icon will toggle the time off... Chandler is open source, so I'm pretty sure it will be around in some form for quite some time...
