Web Intern Job Description

Department: Communications
Type of position: Intern, paid
Minimum Time Commitment: 20 hrs/week
Duration: One semester
Location: New York City
Objective: To support the Web Development Team while providing a practical
learning experience to a student interested in web design, web development
and data management.

Overview: The Web Intern will assist the Webmaster, offering day-to-day
programming support and meeting project-based needs as they arise. The Web
Intern will have the opportunity to contribute creatively to a constantly
evolving, highly-trafficked website while improving his or her programming
skills. An undergraduate looking to put a computer science degree to work
for a good cause will be perfect for this position.

Duties: The Web Intern will be expected to perform the following tasks:
      Post daily updated content to site
      Design and create web layouts and graphics
      Participate in discussions with other departments regarding site
development and growth
      Apply web optimization techniques to entire site

Required Skills:
      Must be comfortable with hand-coded HTML and CSS
      Must be able to use Photoshop
      Attention to detail
      Ability to troubleshoot ones own work

Preferred Skills:
      Server-side programming
      SQL database programming
      Content Management Systems (CMS)
      Preference will be given to candidates who can provide their own
laptop and software (eg. Dreamweaver, Photoshop).
