YOU'RE INVITED! Please join us for an afternoon of fun, sharing, and hot drumming and dancing at the annual Guinea Kids Benefit Concert, a concert and fundraiser to support children's education in Guinea West Africa. LEARN MORE and REGISTER HERE:? http://gkef2009.eventbrite.com/ Hosted by Marissa Baratian and the Guinea Kids Education Fund (GKEF) this event includes live West African music and dance, traditional rhythms from Guinea with drumming by Karim Koumbassa, Abdoulaye Sylla, Manimou Camara and friends, New Discovery School's World Dance classes, an African marketplace, and numerous opportunities to learn more about Guinea and GKEF. Guinea is a country of beautiful land, people, music, dance, and rich traditions. It is also among the poorest countries in the world with a 59% adult illiteracy rate. GKEF is an education support project comprised of individuals in the United States and Guinea, West Africa who are committed to enriching the neighborhood of Enco-5 in Conakry, Guinea. Our mission is to assist and empower the community to increase the percentage of children attending and succeeding in school, and to provide the necessary funding for educational resources, school tuition, school supplies, uniforms, and shoes. By forming a cooperative partnership that integrates local traditions and cultures in education, our goal is to improve the quality of life for this community.
