The Clinical Informatics and Patient Centered Technologies (CIPCT) Program
is sponsoring a lecture "Reducing Health Disparities through Informatics,"
by Dr. Suzanne Bakken, RN, DNSc, FAAN, FACMI, Columbia University.  Dr.
Bakken is the Director of the Center for Evidence-based Practice in the
Underserved, Professor of Biomedical Informatics and Alumni Professor,
Columbia University School of Nursing.  Dr. Bakken's research pursuits are
at the crossroads of healthcare informatics, evidence-based practice and
underserved populations.  Clinical interests include utilization of
informatics interventions to aid patient self-management of illness,
enhancement of health literacy, and improvement of patient safety through
the use of clinical decision support and translating research to practice.
Populations include: HIV/AIDS, depression, obesity, tobacco cessation.  In
her presentation Dr. Bakken will provide an overview of several projects
that utilize informatics to reduce health disparities.
