ICF Macro has an opening for a Geographic Information Systems Senior Specialist with the MEASURE Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) and MEASURE Evaluation projects. Since 1984, the DHS project has provided technical assistance in 80 countries to implement more than 200 surveys, with the objective of advancing global understanding of patterns and trends in maternal and child health, family planning, HIV/AIDS, malaria, and nutrition. Currently, DHS employs some 60 staff consisting of demographers, public health experts, biomarker specialists, sampling statisticians, data processing specialists, qualitative researchers, dissemination specialists, editors, and document production specialists. Job Description: The GIS Senior Specialist manages the GIS team (two people) at ICF Macro. The major role of the GIS team is to promote the collection and use of geographic data in DHS surveys, build capacity in host country organizations to use GIS, and provide technical assistance to support the greater use of GIS for monitoring and evaluation in developing countries. In addition, it is expected that the GIS Senior Specialist will occasionally be involved other projects at ICF Macro with a need for GIS support. The position is based at ICF Macro's headquarters in Calverton, Maryland. It involves approximately 20-30% travel, principally to countries in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Geography or a related field is required. * 9+ years experience in the field of GIS * Experience working in developing countries * Experience in developing and conducting training workshops * Fluency in written and spoken English required * Demonstrated knowledge of ArcView 9.x * Demonstrated knowledge of SPSS, SAS or STATA Preferred Skills/Experience: * Master's degree in a related discipline is strongly preferred. * Experience managing a small team and integrating activities across different projects * Experience working with Open Source GIS software * Language skills in French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, or Russian * Knowledge of GIS applications involving health and population data Professional Skills: * Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills * Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision making capabilities * Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment * Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel) ICF offers an excellent benefits package, an award winning talent development program, and fosters a highly skilled, energized and empowered workforce.
