Jhpiego? It?s a tongue twister without a little help. Pronounced "ja-pie-go," Jhpiego is no longer an acronym. Founded as The Johns Hopkins Program for International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics, the organization was known around the world as JHPIEGO (all caps). But as Jhpiego grew and its areas of expertise expanded, the original founding name became obsolete. A decision was made to officially change the organization?s name to Jhpiego (without caps). It still may not roll off your tongue, but everyone knows what it represents?the gold standard in improving the lives of women and families.
